Special Events for DC Beer Week
DC Beer Week is Sunday, Sept 8 through Sunday, Sept 15 with beer-centric happenings taking place across the city. See below for selected events, and visit the Facebook Page for more details and a complete list of events taking place throughout the week.
The official DC Beer Week Kick Off Party gets going Sunday at 12 p.m. at Bluejacket in Navy Yard, at which the brewery will will release the official beer of DC Beer Week, Solidarity Beer 2019. Guests will be able to try Solidarity Beer 2019 on draft, poured from Franconian-style gravity kegs, and in 4-pack cans to go. There will also be limited edition DC Beer Week merchandise available. Drafts will also be available from local breweries 3 Stars, Atlas, DC Brau, District ChopHouse, Red Bear, Right Proper, and more. The event is free admission and all beers are priced by the glass or in 4 oz tastings.
City Tap Penn Quarter ?is celebrating Beer Week with an “Atlas Satellite Tap Room” popup featuring an Atlas Brew Works tap takeover all week long. Atlas beers being featured on tap include a selection of the breweries core beers, plus two seasonal drafts and five limited releases. On Friday, Sept 13, the bar will feature “Lucky Food Specials.” Enjoy the restaurant’s themed décor while hanging with Atlas brewers and sipping on special beers.
Churchkey’s 5th Annual DC Total Tap Takeover is happening on Tuesday, Sept 10 from 4-11 p.m. in Logan Circle. All 55 draft and cask lines will be devoted to beers brewed in the District and Birch & Barley will feature Executive Chef Jarrad Silver’s 4-course tasting flights paired exclusively with DC brewed beers. There is no admission fee for this event; all beers will be priced individually by the glass and in 4 oz. tasting pours.
On Wednesday, Sept 11, from 5:30-11 p.m., Adams Morgan is home to the Roofers Union Kick the Keg Contest. Seven DC Breweries will have a keg of their choice on tap and its up to the thirsty customers to come in and kick the kegs. The brewery that has the first keg to kick will receive City bragging rights, plus e a $300 prize to donate to a charity of their choice.
Red Bear Brewing Company in NOMA is hosting the inaugural Women in Beer! event on Thursday, Sept 12 from 6-10 p.m. The event will feature a panel and meet-and-greet with enterprising women who help shape how craft beer tastes, develops, and grows in and around the District. Moderated by Red Bear’s Taproom Manager Liz Cox, the panel will feature: Mari Rodela, Chief Community & Culture Officer for DC Brau Brewing Company, Melissa Romano, Owner of Lake Anne Brew House, Katie Marisic, Federal Affairs Manager for the Brewers Association, Drew McCormick, Beer Director at Pizzeria Paradiso (Dupont Circle), and Tierney Plumb, Senior Editor for Eater DC. All profits from Red Bear’s “Blonde Boots” will be donated to the local DMV Pink Boots chapter to help women, GNC, and non-binary folks in the DC area grow in the brewing industry.
The Potomac Riverboat Company’s Miss Mallory is heading out on Friday, Sept 13 for the inaugural Brau Poppin’ and Yacht Rockin’ Sunset Cruise, from 6-8 p.m. Sponsored by DC Brau, guest will enjoy sites from the Potomac while sipping on DC Brau and listening to Yacht Rock curated by the Brothers Brau. Tickets include a 2-hour sunset cruise departing from The Wharf’s Transit Pier in Southwest DC, heavy hors d’oeuvres and one DC Brau. To close out Beer Week, Union Market is hosting its 6th Annual Brewer’s On the Block party, Sunday, Sept 14 from 2-6 p.m. Buffalo & Bergen’s popular summertime airstream bar, Suburbia, will be serving up beer from over 40 local brewers with live music from Big Bad JuJu. Tickets provide guests with unlimited beer tastings, conversations with local brewers, plus a souvenir tasting glass. Go VIP and get an extra hour of tasting time, UNICORN beers, and frozen hoptails from Suburbia.
