DC Jazz Fest Happening Across the District
The DC JazzFest, presented by Events DC, celebrates its 15th year with 10 days of events featuring national and international artists performing throughout Washington, DC, from June 7-16.
The DC Jazz Festival highlights the exceptional array of renowned masters and emerging artists from across the jazz spectrum and beyond. Use the event’s Jazz in the ’Hoods feature to find your favorite artist and various performances located throughout the District, including Anacostia, Georgetown, The Wharf, U Street, Ivy City, Buzzard Point, and the Big Chair for East River Jazz Fest.
June 14-16 is DC Jazz Fest at The Wharf, featuring four main stages with events on the District and Transit Piers that are free and open to the public. The Wharf will also showcase a diverse marketplace and Education Village with a “Meet the Artists” series. Events taking place at The Anthem are ticketed and there are VIP packages available for the full weekend.
The closing night of the 15th anniversary festival will celebrate NEA Jazz Masters Quincy Jones, Nancy Wilson, the renowned trumpeter Roy Hargrove, and Shirley Horn, plus the DC-based stalwart saxophonist Fred Foss. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the event will take place in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall and feature a remarkable cast of great artists: vocal stylist Patti Austin, the Roy Hargrove Big Band, pianist (and Quincy Jones protégé) Justin Kauflin, alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett, tenor sax titan Joshua Redman, genre-bending vocalist Cassandra Wilson, the Princess Mhoon Dance Project, vocalist Roberta Gambarini, and vocalist Sharón Clark. The evening will also feature remarks and observations on the Great Masters from scholar-activist Adam Clayton Powell lll, television personalities Leon Harris, Angela Stribling, and Paxton Baker, and more.
