Mayahuel Coming to Woodley Park

The rumors have been confirmed, Mayahuel is taking over the Bar Civita space on 24th Street in Woodley Park. Mayahuel Cocina Mexicana, from the team behind neighboring District Kitchen, is a modern Mexican restaurant offering a unique interpretation of classic Mexican cuisine with both small plates and full entrees, and showcasing cocktails, draft beer, wine, sangria, and, of course, margaritas.

Crews have been hard at work the past few months transforming the interior space, rebuilding the bar and adding tiling to the top, wallpapering the dining room in an elegant black and white design, and painting other walls taking the color scheme of the restaurant to a modern palette of grays, blues, and yellows honoring the restaurant’s Mexican roots. Other major changes include the removal of mirrors behind the bar for shelving units with a deep blue paint job behind them, painting over of the exposed brick around the fireplace, in white, and the complete gutting of the bar/kitchen in the side dining room.

New furniture also fills the front dining room and the restaurant looks on track to hit their expected opening date early in 2018; Miguel Pizarroso, Chef and Partner, says they’re hoping for a soft open at the end of January. Visit their website for more on the history behind the name and to stay posted on developments.
