DC After 5 Interview: Motion City Soundtrack

By Anthony Saint JamesMinnesota’s Motion City Soundtrack made a stop at the 9:30 Club on Thursday, November 8 and DC After 5 caught up with band member Jesse Johnson.

When was the last time you played in DC? Favorite spot(s) to eat or visit?

The last time we played DC was in 2010. There is a Portuguese chicken place called Nando’s not too far from 9:30 Club. That is a spot we usually hit.

What influenced the decision to create your own record label, Boombox Generation?

Starting Boombox Generation gives us the opportunity to release music anytime we want to, whether it’s MCS or new and upcoming bands that we think people will like.

You’ve done some international touring, in the UK, Australia, and Japan. Where would you say your biggest fan base is outside of the US?

We have been to the UK fourteen times so far, so they are the biggest fan base outside the US. But… we enjoy traveling and seeing new places and playing shows everywhere.

Where’s the after party?

No idea, you tell me.
