Simple, Fresh, Italian at Lavagna DC

For centuries, American’s have shared in a great love affair with the food, wine and harmony of the Italian culture. Lavagna, DC (Italian To English – lavagna- blackboard, slate) the newest addition to the charming and historical 8th Street of Barracks Row and Capitol Hill is simple, fresh and Italian.

An outdoor patio herbal garden of blooming Italian basil, mint and thyme introduces freshness from the very start. Decorated in a restrained color palette of terracotta, exposed brick, mahogany and strategically placed “blackboards”, the first floor dining room instantly feels comfortable and familiar.

Each and every Lavagna pasta dish is prepared with house made pasta which is a true highlight of Lavagna’s philosophy. Carrying this philosophy forward, each table will feature the exclusive Lavagna Virgin Olive Oil, fresh made focaccia bread and handwritten chalkboard menus. Executive Chef Thomas Abbott and Stephen Cheung designed these concepts based on the principle they believe of what food should be: “It should be simple, fresh and changed often-just like a chalkboard.”

Lavagna is located at 539 8th St. SE Washington DC 20003 two blocks south of the Eastern Market Metro Station.
