DC Summer Outdoor Movie Guide

Georgetown Sunset Cinema
Georgetown BID is hosting the neighborhood’s second annual movie series on Tuesdays July 5 through August 2. In celebration of the National Park Service’s 100th birthday this year, the series will feature iconic movies filmed in and featuring national parks and monuments across the country.  The movies will be shown at the beautiful Georgetown Waterfront Park, a national park managed by the NPS. Grab a blanket, bring a picnic and head to the waterfront to view films with the panoramic backdrop of the sunset, Potomac River and Key Bridge. The five-week series will make a stop in each decade from the 1960s to the 2000s. Films start at sunset (around 8:30 p.m.), arrive early to picnic and to get the best seating.

NoMa Summer Screen
NoMa Summer Screen is a free, 13-week outdoor film series held at NoMa Junction at Story Park (1005 First Street NE)  every Wednesday through August 24. Before the show, enjoy  music, giveaways, food trucks, and picnicking. Movies start at dark and are screened with subtitles. Bring your blankets, frisbees, coolers, and dogs (on a leash) for some good times with friends and neighbors under the stars. This year’s theme is “Choose your own Adventure,” and features special family film nights. Check out the line-up and available food trucks for each night:

Golden Cinema Series
Join your friends at Farragut Square to relax after a work week and enjoy DC-themed movies with preshow activities. Do some shopping and grab dinner to bring along from an area restaurant and enjoy Golden Cinema Specials at select restaurants and retailers, check out the website for a list of participating locations. Union Market Drive-In
The Union Market Drive-In is back for featuring monthly movies July-October. Movies begin at 8 p.m. (the lot opens at 6 p.m.) and are free for walkers & bikers, $10 tickets are needed for cars.

Capitol Riverfront Movie Series
Capitol Riverfront’s Thursday Night Movies returns to Canal Park at Navy Yard from June through August. Movies, starting at sundown, were selected or inspired by public demand. Arrive early to save your spot, bring a picnic, and enjoy the show.

Mount Vernon Square Movie Nights
New this year, enjoy outdoor movies on the grounds of the Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square, hosted by Washington City Paper and Events DC.

U Street Movie Series: Harrison Field Under the Stars
Held at Harrison Field (1330 V St NW), the U Street Movie Series features four films, and on September 17 enjoy Family Fun Day at the recreation center pre-showtime.

Mitchell Park Films in the Field
The Friends of Mitchell Park host outdoor films at the park this summer, located just north of Dupont Circle (S & 23rd Street, NW)

July 21 – To Kill a Mockingbird (8:30 p.m.)

August 18 – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (8 p.m.)

Sept 9 – Ghostbusters (7 p.m.)

Films at the Stone
Films at the Stone debuts this year as the only outdoor film fest taking place at a memorial on the National Mall. Films displaying the best of human strength, love, and courage will be shown at the MLK Jr. Memorial, starting at 8:15 p.m.

Events DC Movie Nights
Events DC is hosting a movie series at Gateway DC, an innovative open-air and covered pavilion in Congress Heights (2300 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd SE).
