Kickoff Oktoberfest with Dachshund Dash 2017

D.C.’s favorite Oktoberfest tradition returns to The Yards Park at the Capitol Riverfront for the Sixth Annual Wiener 500. On Saturday, September 30 from 1-5 p.m. you can watch dozens of dogs compete to be the snazziest and the speediest and take home over $500 in cash and prizes. The race is for Dachshund’s only but all dogs can join in the best dressed dog competition. Race proceeds will be donated to the Humane Rescue Alliance.

Spectators can take in the race on a 17 foot jumbotron with play-by-play calling provided by Wes Johnson, voice of the Washington Capitols. The free, family-friendly event will also feature live music, cold beer (21+), and Oktoberfest style food hot off the grill. Sign-up to participate in the Sam Adams stein hoisting competition, shop local vendors, and collect giveaways from D.C.’s best pet-friendly businesses.

The Dash is part of a larger event that day — the DC Walk for the Animals benefitting the Humane Rescue Alliance. The walk is under one mile, so it’s kid-friendly, as is the rest of the day. After the walk, there will be vendors, entertainment, and other fun activities, like the Dachshund Dash!

Please note that only certain activities at the event will benefit the shelter monetarily, so If you want to support the shelter directly, please sign up for the walk or donate to one of the walker’s fundraising efforts.
