‘2017 Lucky You’ New Year’s Day Brunch at Black Squirrel

Want 2017 to be a lucky one? Here comes The Black Squirrel to the rescue with their annual Lucky You Brunch on New Year’s Day (Sunday, Jan. 1), starting at 11 a.m.

Highlights of their lucky food include:

  • Black-Eyed Peas (In the South, eating black-eyed peas shows humility and thus invites good fortune.)
  • Cooked Greens: (collard greens and sauerkraut) are considered lucky because they look like greenbacks.)
  •  Cornbread (A side of cornbread represents the glories of gold.)
  •  Pork (Because of its fat, is served to bring a New Year rich with happiness.)
  • Fish: (Eating fish is a symbol of moving forward in the new year)
  • Doughnuts and Cookies: (Foods in the shape of a ring are thought to bring good luck, possibly because they symbolize coming full circle.)
Lucky dishes will include: Black-Eyed Peas, Cornbread, and Collard Greens;  Hoppin’ John; Pork Belly Banh Mi sandwiches; Pork Sausage with Sweet and Sour Sauerkraut and Golden Yukon Potatoes, Fried Catfish Platter; a Lucky Burger, and Glazed and Sugar Doughnuts, Cookies and Milk.
